Companies look for BPM solutions for a number of reasons, including the fact that people make mistakes, they are unreliable, it is difficult to keep people motivated when doing the same thing year after year, requirements to increase productivity and profitability, amongst a whole heap more. One of the major problems with this is that the solution implemented deands compliance with the new system and not necessarily with the business, and that brings with it a whole new set of challenges.
Is there a better way to do things that does not cost a fortune, require an army of professional services people, and is responsive and not prescriptive? I believe that there is.
Discussions that we are entering into with clients centres around a few key questions: Where do you make your money? and Where are you losing money? If we can smarten up a little in the areas where a company is making money, we can make them more. If we can address some of the reasons why money is lost, there is direct bottom line benefit. The discussion is not centred around the merits of various technologies, but around what the client needs.
This is only possible if the solutions are flexible and can be modified easily without any dependency on hardware and application platforms. The ability to interact with "1's" and "0's" on an IP address is the only prerequisite. The ability to create automated processes across any platform is relatively unique and can be best accomplished by using software from Opalis Software Inc. They have been in the game for almost 12 years now and while their primary "go to market" message is directed at "Run-Book Automation" the ability to automate business processes is atrociously understated. We have a client that is involved in the FMCG market and they have used the technology to handle all the B2B transactions and are now regularly delivering products to their customers in less time than it originally took to confirm the order. Other examples exist where provisioning of new services to clients was completed in just short of two weeks and now is done in under 4 hours with 25% of the original staff complement. This all for a very manageable fee.
Many systems would be able to boast these kinds of values, but by being able to control those policies internally without major expenses from large consulting houses has great value. A current engagement in Europe has seen a team of 2,500 consultants reduced to less than 10% by introducing this technology and the benefit is realisable almost immediately.
Well worth looking at.
